Certification demonstrates use of ecological principles and high ethical standards in decision-making
(Mpls, MN) - Dovetail Partners, a Minneapolis-based environmental group, announces the certification of its Associate Ecologist, Sarah Stai, as a Senior Ecologist with the Ecological Society of America (ESA).
“I’m excited to share the news of Dr. Stai’s achievement. Her accomplishments help support the Dovetail mission to address the diverse impacts of environmental decisions. They also highlight the importance we place on staying current with new challenges and maintaining the highest professional standards,” says Kathryn Fernholz, Executive Director of Dovetail Partners.
The ESA certification program provides access to professional ecologists for advice and technical guidance on public policy and regulatory issues facing society. The certification process verifies that ESA members have met the education and experience requirements for different certification levels. Certified ecologists also adhere to the ESA Code of Ethics.
“I have a long-standing interest in how ecological principles get applied to the human environment. My work at Dovetail allows me to explore how to incorporate the concepts of ecology into wildlife conservation, land development, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture,” says Stai.
Sarah Stai was first certified as an Ecologist in 2007. With her new 5-year certification, she now qualifies as a Senior Ecologist, having earned a doctorate in ecology and gained eight years of work experience following that degree. Her Dovetail reports have addressed working lands conservation and an ecosystem restoration approach to forestation in Minnesota. She has also made original written contributions to her field, such as a publication about the behavioral ecology of Muscovy ducks in the ornithological journal The Auk in 2010. Stai’s current efforts at Dovetail include exploration of wind energy and wildlife impacts, sustainable land development, and training programs in sustainable farming.
Prior to working with Dovetail, Stai worked as an environmental consultant in land and energy development, taught ecology in various contexts, and worked on a variety of ecological research projects. She received her core training as a behavioral ecologist through the University of Minnesota and the University of Miami.
