Dovetail Partners’ Environmental Speakers Bureau Continues Growth

New team member brings expertise in agronomy, agriculture, business management, and economic development

(MPLS, MN) - Dovetail Partners, a Minneapolis-based environmental think tank, announces the recent addition of Reginaldo Haslett-Marroquin to its Environmental Speakers Bureau. Dovetail launched the Speakers Bureau in 2011 to provide access to experts on diverse environmental topics and to deliver information to a full range of audiences. Mr. Haslett-Marroquin brings an extensive knowledge of agronomy and agriculture in relation to economic development and business opportunities focused on Latino/a and Indigenous cultures.

"Systems thinking is a new challenge for nonprofits and leaders looking to affect large scale change in this country,” says Haslett-Marroquin. “For this to happen, expertise from key sectors must come together to align thinking and operations to invigorate this kind of change."

Mr. Haslett-Marroquin, a Guatemalan native, received his agronomy degree from the Central National School of Agriculture, studied at the Universidad de San Carlos in Guatemala and graduated from Augsburg College in Minneapolis with a degree in International Business Management and a minor in communications. In 1988, he began working on economic development projects with indigenous Guatemalan communities, and has served as a consultant for the United Nations Development Program’s Bureau for Latin America and as advisor to the World Council of Indigenous Peoples. In 1996, he was named one of the Twin Cities International Citizens of the Year. In 2008, he received both the Northfield and College City Sertoma Service to Mankind Award, as well as their district award. Currently, Mr. Haslett-Marroquin directs the Sustainable Food and Agriculture Program at Main Street Project, a Minnesota nonprofit organization focused on transforming systems that perpetuate inequities.

“We are thrilled and honored to have Reginaldo join Dovetail’s Speakers Bureau and believe he will serve as a perfect addition, ensuring Dovetail Partners remains a trusted source of environmental information that will continue to deliver science to decision-making,” says Kathryn Fernholz, Dovetail’s Executive Director.

Mr. Haslett-Marroquin also serves on the Fifth Bridge advisory board, a nonprofit organization promoting volunteerism, on the Northfield Area Foundation Board of Directors, on the Dovetail Partners advisory board and is a member of the Rotary Club of Northfield. He is a founding member of the Fair Trade Federation and started Peace Coffee, a fair-trade coffee company. He has also worked with woodland owners in the Midwest and Guatemala where he organized several stewardship-certified cooperative forestry businesses.

“Joining Dovetail Partners' Speakers Bureau is an important step in our efforts to build larger teams and institutional capabilities while designing and deploying practical, scalable and sustainable food and agriculture enterprise systems. This is an important strategy for materializing virtually untapped, but critically competitive advantages and economic opportunities for rural communities across the country,” stated Haslett-Marroquin.

The Dovetail Partners Speakers Bureau includes staff and associates of Dovetail that offer expertise on a full range of topics, including sustainable forestry and land management, environmental policy, responsible consumption, green building, green marketing, environmentally-focused business management, systematic assessment of environmental impacts, urban forestry and agriculture, agronomy, bio-energy, and life cycle assessment, along with many other environmental topics.
