Dovetail Partners Introduces New Summer 2015 Interns

(Minneapolis, MN) - Dovetail Partners, a Minneapolis-based environmental think tank, is proud to introduce seven new summer interns that have joined our team to support current programs and projects.

 

 

Cassie Baumgartner, Responsible Materials Intern, is a fourth year student at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities working towards a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Policy and Management with a focus on Environmental Science. Cassie's professional interests include water quality and use, waste management, ecosystem health, impacts of human and environmental interactions, and bridging technical science and social aspects to instill interest within diverse communities. At Dovetail, Cassie is researching the concept of biomimicry and developing a foundational summary to support the future development of a final report. 

 

 

Chrissy Johnson, Responsible Materials Intern, is from Inver Grove Heights, MN and is currently completing a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management with a focus on Corporate Environmental Management at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. Chrissy has been passionate about the environment since she was a kid, and is always trying to learn more. At Dovetail, Chrissy is researching Life Cycle Assessment and developing a report that explains how its basic concepts can be applied to every day decision making and consumer choices. 

 

 

Didi Kim, Responsible Materials and Certification Intern, is a fourth year student at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities working towards a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Policy and Management with a focus on Environmental Science. Didi values sustainable living practices as one of the most fundamental and central elements to solving any type of environmental issue. Last summer, Didi completed her first internship at Messzelátó Association in Budapest, Hungary, a community-based environmental nonprofit, where she learned about the importance of public discourse and how to bring sustainable practices to daily life in urban settings. At Dovetail, Didi is researching the "Zero Deforestation" movement and developing a foundational summary to support the future development of a final report. 

 

 

Liam Krause, Environmental Education Intern, is from Deerfield, WI and holds a BA in Political Science from Winona State University. While in Winona, he spent his time volunteering with the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge, playing bluegrass music with friends, and taking advantage of outdoor opportunities in the area. Having recently moved to St. Paul, Liam is currently employed as a canoe instructor for the MN DNR's I Can Paddle program and is working with Dovetail on supporting the development and success of Forestinfo.org through improved reliability, expanded materials, and creative ideas.

 

 

Sunny Leung, Responsible Materials Intern, is currently completing his last year of a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Policy and Management with a focus of Corporate Environmental Management at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. Before transferring to the U of M, Sunny completed a transfer degree of Environmental Science at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, WA. Sunny has a strong interest in solid waste management, particularly recycling. One of his career goals is to manage solid waste and recycling in his hometown of Hong Kong, China. At Dovetail, Sunny is developing a report that addresses the current state of recycling in the U.S., including data about waste management, recovery, recycling and reuse. 

 

 

Chase Taylor, Renewable Energy Intern, is originally from Reno, NV, and is a current third year student at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities double majoring in Chemical Engineering and Political Science. Chase is very interested in renewable energy, sustainable materials, and the intersection of science and politics. Chase has also been actively involved in chemistry research and student government since his freshman year of college. At Dovetail, Chase is developing a directory of commercial high efficiency wood energy system operators in Minnesota and western Wisconsin and developing case studies to be shared with the Minnesota Statewide Wood Energy Team.

 

 

Alex Van Vlaenderen, Land Use Intern, is a current fourth year student at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities working towards completing a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Policy and Management with a focus in Soil Science and Conservation and a minor focus on GIS. Prior to transferring to the U of M, Alex began a Sustainability degree at Minnesota State University - Moorhead. Alex loves applying technology to conservation efforts and natural resource management and has done so in the past through GPS and GIS mapping. In 2014, Alex volunteered with the Southeast Como Improvement Association in Minneapolis where he assisted with community gardens and public education events. In his free time, Alex enjoys camping with friends and family. He holds a goal of visiting all of the National Parks throughout the country. At Dovetail, Alex is researching best management practices for farming, forestry and mining and developing a report that evaluates and compares existing Best Management Practices for water quality protections in each industry.
