(Minneapolis, MN) - Join Dovetail Partners in Fort Worth, Texas at the International Society of Arboriculture's Annual International Conference and Trade Show from August 13-17, 2016. The ISA Annual International Conference and Trade Show provides a forum for the exchange of information and opportunities to network with others in the arboricultural profession. The event provides a lineup of educational sessions led by industry leaders from around the globe, sharing their thoughts and views about the newest trends in equipment, practice, technology and research in arboriculture and urban forestry. It is the world’s premier gathering of arboricultural professionals, where practicing arborists and urban foresters come together with top researchers and educators.

On Tuesday, August 16th, Dovetail's Executive Director, Kathryn Fernholz, will be presenting an abstract titled "Urban Forest Assessments and Urban Tree Use: Lessons Learned from Minneapolis/St. Paul (MN), Raleigh (NC) and Richmond, (VA)" as part of the "Urban and Municipal" track at the conference. This presentation will provide an introduction to the clustering concept of economic development and address some of the key findings from recent urban forest policy and program studies completed in three states - Minnesota, North Carolina, and Virginia. The presentation will also provide examples of approaches being used in communities to address urban forest management, urban forest assessment tools, and increased opportunities for economic, social and environmental benefits. The work shared in this presentation has been supported by the North Carolina Forest Service, Virginia Department of Forestry, the USDA Forest Service, Wood Education and Resource Center, and the US Forest Service, Southern Region.

Kathryn Fernholz is a forester by training and has worked on development and forest management issues in a wide range of roles. With a consulting firm, her work included natural resource inventories, comprehensive planning, environmental impact assessments and the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). While working for the Community Forestry Resource Center, she developed and managed a group certification project for family forests and worked to increase local capacity to provide forest management and marketing services that are compatible with certification standards. She is also an experienced Forest Management Certification Lead Auditor. Kathryn has a BS in Forest Resources from the University of Minnesota, College of Natural Resources.
