Creating and Sustaining Small Farmers and Ranchers
(Minneapolis, MN) - Join Dovetail Partners, a Minneapolis-based environmental think tank, at the 7th National Small Farm Conference from September 20-22, 2016 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Harry Groot, Associate with Dovetail Partners will be presenting in the afternoon of September 22nd on the results of efforts to support biochar production capacities, including his own operations. The presentation will look at the work of The Biochar Collaborative, including associated woody biomass utilization technologies they're developing. The project has been supported through a grant awarded by the Wood Education and Resource Center, Northeastern Area State and Private Forestry, Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Virginia State University will be hosting the 7th National Small Farm Conference, which will be held September 20-22, 2016, in collaboration with Virginia Cooperative Extension and the United States Department of Agriculture. The event will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is serving as the lead USDA Agency, with other agencies collaborating.
The conference will consist of short courses, oral and poster paper presentations, exhibits, success stories and educational tours in and around Virginia Beach and the Chesapeake Bay. Successes in small farm activities will be shared, as well as innovative ideas in research, extension and outreach to strengthen collaboration and partnership among state specialists who work to ensure that small farmers and ranchers thrive in today's economy.
