Preparing for a Summer of Learning

2013 Sustainable Forestry Teachers' Tours offer exciting opportunities for educators this summer

(MPLS, MN) - All around the country this summer, teachers will be going out into the forest and learning about the environment through sustainable forestry teachers’ tours.

“These tours offer a priceless opportunity to learn about forests and the environment first hand,” says Kathryn Fernholz, Executive Director of Dovetail Partners, a Minneapolis-based environmental non-profit that supports science-based learning.

The tours provide an opportunity for educators to become immersed in the social, economic and ecological aspects of sustainable forestry. Teachers are provided with beneficial information to take back to their classrooms, empowering students with information needed to make positive change.

The 2013 offerings include forestry tours hosted by third-party forest-related public agencies, stewardship organizations and non-profits throughout the country. Teachers' tours are currently planned in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Louisiana, Idaho, Arkansas, Maine, Texas, Oregon and California. Applications are currently being accepted. A list of tours and more details are available at Dovetail's environmental education website Forestinfo.org (http://www.forestinfo.org/forestry_tours/2013).

The Forestinfo.org website is hosted by Dovetail Partners as a one-stop resource for teachers, students, forestry professionals, and anyone with an interest in protecting, managing, and enhancing the natural environment.
Forestinfo.org provides access to environmental information that is understandable, unbiased, and accurate.

“It is more important than ever to understand environmental science and nothing beats real-world experience for learning more about the world we live in,” says Fernholz.
