Southeastern U.S. States Release New Urban Forest Fast Breaks for Back-to-School



Animated educational shorts focus on urban forests, their benefits and urban wood usage


(Minneapolis, MN) – The Urban Forestry Programs from throughout the Southeastern United States are  pleased to announce the release of new Urban Forest Fast Breaks. These Forest Fast Breaks are concise, engaging animated shorts that simplify complex forestry topics using sound effects and narration suitable for third grade through adult learners.


"The new Urban Forest Fast Breaks are a great visual learning tool for engaging students and for teaching about urban forests, the benefits they provide, and ways urban wood can be beneficially utilized" says Kathryn Fernholz, Executive Director of Dovetail Partners, the non-profit organization that hosts "The Forest Fast Break videos are wonderful resources for stimulating young minds and can support exciting learning opportunities in and outside of the classroom."

The new Urban Forest Fast Breaks were produced in partnership between Dovetail Partners and the North Carolina Forest Service with funding support provided by the North Carolina Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program.


The full Forest Fast Breaks video library highlights forest ecology, sustainable forest management practices, and the environmental benefits of utilizing wood in consumer products and as a building material. Seventeen videos cover topics including carbon capture, clearcutting, ecosystems, forest fire, fire safety, forest management, green building, photosynthesis, reforestation, sustainability, tree biology, urban forests, urban forest benefits, urban forest wood usage, water, wildlife and wood products. All Forest Fast Breaks have been produced by the Oregon Forest Resources Institute.
