Matt Frank


Matt has a background in environmental planning and design, working and volunteering for organizations in both the private and nonprofit sectors. Matt holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design (BED), with a focus in landscape architecture, urban planning and design, and a minor in architecture from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Matt is also a Certified Permaculture Designer and a Certified Urban Farmer. In April 2012, Matt attended a nine-day intensive Permaculture Design Certification course offered by the the Regnerative Leadership Institute in Eugene, OR and received a certificate in urban permaculture applications and regenerative leadership. In Fall 2014, Matt graduated from a nine-month long Urban Farming Certification Program offered through Minneapolis-based nonprofit Permaculture Research Institute Cold Climate. Matt’s interests include urban agriculture, permaculture, regenerative landscape design, natural building, green stormwater management, and public and non-motorized transportation planning and design.


In addition to his role at Dovetail, Matt currently acts as the Founder of From the Ground Up North, a grassroots organization focused on cultivating awareness of healthy food, healthy environments and healthy communities with a focus on urban and rural landscapes and the connections in between. He also currently volunteers on the Macalester-Groveland Community Council in St. Paul, MN serving as a voting member on their Transportation Commitee and as an active Permaculture Research Institute Cold Climate Board Member.
