Join Dovetail at the Forest Landowners Association’s Conference

Chuck Henderson to Address Multi-generational Family Forest Business

(Minneapolis, MN) - Join Dovetail Partners in Squaw Valley, California at the Forest Landowners Association’s Family Forest Business Conference from June 18 – 21, 2019.   The Family Forest Business Conference is the only conference that brings together family forest landowners, forest businesses, forest consultants, and stakeholders to focus not only on sustaining private forests but sustaining the people who own them.

On Thursday, June 20th, Dovetail Associate, Chuck Henderson, will be presenting and hosting a panel titled “Sustaining Forests and The Families That Own Them Through Multiple Generations.” Families and the forests they own have a symbiotic relationship forged by consistent management through multiple generations. Supported by strong and growing markets, these large-scale family forest businesses have honored their legacy while preparing for the future. What can be learned from their experience, and what more can be done to strengthen the family/forest relationship? This panel features the results of a recent nationwide multi-family study: "A Survey of Industrial-Scale Multigenerational Family Forest Owners Across the United States.” The study explored best practices from these families and the forest businesses they run. The results of the study will be shared followed by a discussion with representatives of some of the participating families.

At Dovetail, Chuck Henderson’s focus is on western forestry issues and family ownership of forests. He brings a strong business and technical background, expertise in systems thinking, and forest policy to his work.  Chuck is a fifth-generation forest owner and has been actively involved in the broader forest community as an advocate on the local, state and national level.  He has been on various industry boards and commissions including the National Alliance of Forest Owners to the American Forest Foundation to the California Tree Farm Committee.

Chuck has an MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in Physics from UC Berkeley.  In addition, he holds certificates in Sustainable Management from the Presidio Graduate School in San Francisco and Family Business Advising and Family Wealth Advising from the Family Firm Institute.
