Great Lakes Mass Timber Collaborative Releases Vision Document, Names Dovetail Partners as Fiscal Sponsor and Confirms Ongoing Leadership by MassTimber@MSU

Dovetail Partners is proud to support the Great Lakes Mass Timber Collaborative, which convened more than 100 participants, both in person and online, on April 2 to release its “Regional Vision” and outline next steps for building a coordinated mass timber economy across eight states.

Founded in 2024 by MassTimber@MSU at Michigan State University, the Collaborative brings together leaders from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. Stakeholders from across the mass timber value chain first met virtually and later in person in Detroit in October 2024 to explore opportunities for regional growth.

A draft of the Vision was presented at the International Mass Timber Conference in 2025 and refined through stakeholder feedback. The final document, released April 2, 2026, outlines key priorities, strategies, and next steps for implementation.

Dovetail Partners has been named the Collaborative’s fiscal sponsor, providing administrative and financial oversight to support its work. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with extensive experience in forestry and forest products, Dovetail is honored to help advance this regional effort.

"It is an honor for Dovetail Partners to be able to provide a home for this work to continue," said Kathryn Fernholz, President & CEO of Dovetail Partners. "Dovetail has been involved with supporting the realization of benefits from mass timber since the early days, and we've been on board with the Collaborative from day one – we're excited to see the momentum continue to build and to be able to do our part."

Sandra Lupien, Director of MassTimber@MSU, will continue to serve as facilitator, ensuring continuity in leadership and collaboration.

The release of the Regional Vision marks a key milestone in aligning partners and advancing a thriving mass timber economy across the Great Lakes region.
